The AI Ethics Education and Awareness (AEEA) Taskforce is part of the IEEE CIS SHIELD Technical Committee and was founded in 2025.
The aim of AEEA is top raise awareness and increase knowledge of global ethical principles, guidelines, current and emerging legislation in the field of Computational Intelligence / Artificial Intelligence (CI/AI). Our efforts will prioritize educational and skill development initiatives designed to address the needs of diverse stakeholders, including researchers, industry professionals, and the general public.
AEEA has 5 main goals:
- Design and develop dynamic tutorials/workshops targeting specific stakeholders on global ethical principles, guidelines, current and emerging legalisation in the field of CI / AI. The aim is to create a shared repository of resources.
- Explore how “AI ethics” is taught in undergraduate and post graduate curricula globally and conduct a SWOT analysis.
- Create a repository list signposting open access technical and social-technical tools that can be used to bridge the principles to practice gap available to IEEE CIS members.
- Work with the IEEE CIS Education committee, to design and develop a short introduction artifact on responsible and ethical AI which will be filmed and made available to members. Other opportunities will be explored for IEEE CIS education.
- Provide opportunities for the advancement of research in participatory AI practices by hosting workshops and tutorial sessions at both IEECIS and non-CIS sponsored conferences.
- Promote interdisciplinary collaboration among academia, industry, education (schools, colleges and higher education) and citizens.
